The crews at the U-Haul Nabisco building in New Center Detroit continue to rev things up at 899 W. Baltimore Ave.

We are cruising along on the construction of the self-storage units on the third floor. The crew finished the third- and fourth-row framing and sheeting. And, this week they will start hanging the doors.

Up on the roof

The heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) condenser has been installed on the roof – kudos to the roofer and the HVAC installer for their coordination on this. The electricians are working on service to the heating coils on the air handler, and ductwork has been installed in the showroom.

Down in the showroom, industrial high-bay lights have been installed on the orange trusses. They are low-energy, metal-halide lights, similar to what you find in football stadiums. They put out a ton of light and add a distinctive design element.

Load/Unload area looking good

Crews continue to add more finishing touches to the loading and unloading area. Scraping and painting of the walls and columns are almost complete. Just a few last finishing touches and this area will be ready to go!

As the old saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.” The concrete for the exterior handicap ramp has been poured and we’re waiting for the curing process to finish. We should be able to install railings in about a week.

Here, there and almost everywhere

The walls are up and the floor core has been drilled for plumbing. On the third floor, demolition of the old restrooms is complete and construction of the new restrooms has begun.
